Carter G. Woodson is credited with being the founder of Black History Month. Often referred to as the “Father of Black History,” he was notably the second African American to graduate from Harvard University with a doctorate degree, and is credited with being one of the first scholars to study and research the history of African Americans. Initially a week long celebration, President Ford officially declared February to be Black History Month in 1976. Today we recognize the valuable work of school resource officers during National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. SROs are carefully selected, specifically trained, sworn law enforcement officers assigned to work with schools using community-oriented policing concepts. Nicolet's SRO Marissa Myers went into policing with the goal of becoming a school resource officer. She now has her "dream job." and her favorite part is the relationships she has built with students and staff. Thank you Officer Myers, we appreciate all you do to keep our school safe!
